John F. Sockriter, 61, of Newton died Thursday, Jan. 30, 2014, at the Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

The family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 4, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton. A brief memorial service will be at 7 p.m. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News.

Those left to celebrate John’s life are his wife, Pam Sockriter of Newton; step daughter, Melissa Brown of Newton; two step granddaughters, Madelyn Brown and Grace Brown; and his brothers and sisters, Gailand Sockriter of Knoxville, Carol (Pete) Langstraat of Hart, Michigan, James Sockriter of Knoxville, Ruby (Wes) Johnson of Eddyville, Rose (Floyd) Poole of Des Moines and Ron Sockriter of Knoxville. He was preceded in death by his parents.

John was a graduate of Knoxville High School in Knoxville, Iowa with the Class of 1971.

John was a production worker at the Maytag Company in Newton for 30 years.

John was a member of the Newton Elks Lodge No. 1270. John loved having his step granddaughters around. He also enjoyed their swimming pool.
