Betty was born in Des Moines March 8, 1946. She grew up on a farm near Prairie City, graduating from Prairie City High School and later attended Central College.
On March 6, 1976, she was married to James Stevenson Muir in Pella. They lived in Pella a short time and then moved to Newton, spending 38 years together. Before retiring, Betty worked as a secretary and a personal assistant for many years.
She loved having her pet cat as her constant companion. She also enjoyed being with friends, going for coffee or lunch or attending a special activity. She was an active member of Red Hat Society and former secretary of NAMI. Betty and Steve enjoyed membership in the Des Moines chapter of the Cadillac LaSalle club. Betty professed her faith in Jesus Christ at an early age and was a member of Cornerstone Bible Fellowship Church in Newton.
Betty is survived by her husband, Steve; and siblings, Dorothy, Robert and Ruth and their spouses. She also leaves eight nieces and nephews; and 13 great-nieces and great-nephews to honor her memory. She was preceded in death by her parents; and infant brother, Ronald.
Visitation for Betty will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 3, at Coburn Funeral Home in Prairie City with services to follow at 2 p.m. The family requests that donations in memory of Betty be given to Hospice in lieu of flowers.
