Jane T. Egland, 92, of Houston, formerly of Rochester, died Friday, Jan. 10, 2013(4), at Valley View Healthcare and Rehab in Houston.
Jane was born July 5, 1921, in Stone Lake, Wis., to Sylvester and Mary (Barber) Clawson. She was raised in Brainerd until moving with her family to Houston where she graduated from Houston High School in 1939. On Feb. 15, 1941, Jane was united in marriage with Hurvey Egland. Jane and Hurvey farmed in rural Houston for many years and also lived in Rochester for several years.
She was a very active member of the Free Church in both Houston and Rochester. Jane was a lifetime member of the Women's Ministry through church. In her spare time, she enjoyed knitting, sewing, cooking, reading and spending time with her family.
Jane is survived by two children, Dale Egland of Winona and Bernice (Jerry) Nau of Rochester; a son-in-law, Doug Oelke of Newton, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Doreen (Michael) Clough, Denice (Scott) Redman, Amy (Rick) Malley, Roxanne (Robert) Schlatter, Sarah (Andy) McGill, Mark (Cherilynn) Oelke and Dr. Cherie Nau; and by 16 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter, Lois, four brothers and two sisters.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 16, at Bethany Evangelical Free Church in Houston, with the Rev. David Wiersbe officiating. Burial will be in the Silver Creek Cemetery in rural Houston.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 15, at Hoff Funeral and Cremation Service in Houston, and one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the church.
Jane's family prefers memorials directed to the Bethany Evangelical Free Church in Houston.
