Robert Leland Moffitt, 85, of Colfax died Sunday, Dec. 1, 2013, at Mill-Pond in Ankeny.

A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 5 at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton. The family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 4 at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to The Michael J. Fox Foundation For Parkinson’s Research or to the Macular Degeneration Foundation may be left at the funeral home. Memorials may also be mailed to the funeral home, please add Attn: Moffitt Family on the envelope.

Survivors include his children, Lon (Elaine) Moffitt of Altoona, Lynisa Beam (Paul Davis) of Altoona and Tony Moffitt of Des Moines. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News.

Those left to honor Robert’s memory are his children, Lon (Elaine) Moffitt of Altoona, Lynisa Beam (Paul Davis) of Altoona and Tony Moffitt of Des Moines; three grandchildren, Missy Beam (Mitch Law) Elyria, Ohio, Mike (Kelly) Moffitt of Maple Grove, Minnesota and Matt (Beriet) Moffitt of Mt. Pleasant; and his four great-grandchildren, Isaac, Johnny, Owen and Nathan. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mildred Jeanne “Millie” on February 26, 1998.

Robert was a graduate of Colfax High School.

Robert worked many years for the Maytag Company in Newton where he was a production work and was an inspector at the time he retired. He was a member of the UAW Local 997 Retiree’s Union.

Robert enjoyed being with his family. He also enjoyed traveling, liked being around and taking pictures of trains, cooking, gardening, and the Iowa State Fair.
