April 14, 1928 - November 25, 2013

John W. Tibboel, age 85 of Prairie City, died Monday, November 25, 2013, at Hospice of Pella - Comfort House in Pella. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 30, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at Prairie City Christian Reformed Church with burial following at Waveland Cemetery. Visitation will take place on Friday, November 29, 2013, from 2:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Coburn Funeral Home in Prairie City. The family will greet friends from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Memorials may be directed to Hospice of Pella - Comfort House or Missionaries at the church. Condolences may be left for the family at www.coburnfuneralhomes.com.

The son of Martin and Maggie (Stam) Tibboel, John was born on April 14, 1928, in Renwick, Iowa. On July 2, 1952, he was united in marriage to Helen Plate in Prairie City. John proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He worked as a millwright at the Vernon Co. for 31 years. John was also a member of the Prairie City Christian Reformed Church, where he served as a Deacon and with the Men's Society. John enjoyed golfing and site seeing, but he mostly enjoyed going to his children and grand children's events.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Helen; children, Dennis (Mary) Tibboel of Knoxville, Karen (Jim) Umble of Harvey, Lola (Al) Benes of Pella, Lila (Glenn) Neideigh of Runnells, and Kenneth (Karla) Tibboel of Big Lake, Minnesota; nine grandchildren; nine great grandchildren and three sisters, Ann Van Zee of Pella, Cornelia Verschuure of Pella, and Margaret (Stan) Mulder of Otley. Preceding him in death were his parents, brothers, Frank, Harry, Ted, Garrit, Herman, and Clarence; sisters, Nellie and an infant sister; a granddaughter, Taylor, and a great granddaughter, Jillian. ~ The Coburn Funeral Home, Colfax, Iowa.
