Scott Michael Ulrey, 52, of Monroe passed away peacefully at his home, losing his battle with lung cancer, on Saturday, Nov. 23, 2013.

Celebration of life services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 30, 2013, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home & Crematory, 1115 E. 19th St. N. in Newton.

The family will greet friends immediately following the celebration of life service at the Wallace Family Funeral Home. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News.

Those left to honor Scott’s memory are his wife, Dawn of Monroe; two daughters, Jesi (Elliott) Moore of Lincoln, Nebraska and Joni Ulrey-Smith (Lucas) of Monroe; son, Benjamin Ulrey (Friend, Christina) of Knoxville; six grandsons, Zachary Schneider, Ryan Schneider, Ahren Schneider, Izaiah Ulrey, Zander Smith and Aiden Smith; his mother, Verna Ulrey of Monroe; two sisters, Becky (Gary) Nolin of Monroe and Jennifer Peters of Newton; four brothers, Casey (Tammi) Ulrey of Newton, Tony (Nicole) Stafford of Prairie City, Doug (Lynn) Ulrey of Newton and Patrick Ulrey of Newton; and he is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents, father, Michael Dean Ulrey and his sister, Robin Goodman.

Scott received his GED and then got his degree in Electrical Trade Construction from DMACC. Scott then went on to get his certificate of completion for Truck Driving School.

Scott worked for Maytag for over twenty years; after it's closing he worked as a truck driver at Midwestern Culvert in Ankeny and Werner Trucking in Omaha, NE. He also worked for PAG Seeds in Monroe and was a member of the UAW Local 997 in Newton.

Scott was known by some of his family and friends as "Scoot" or "Scooty".
