June 2, 1927 - November 6, 2013

Margarete “Marge” Lafrenz, 86, of Marshalltown, died late Wednesday, November 6th, at the Southridge Nursing and Rehab Center. Her family wishes to express their gratitude to Southridge and Care Initiatives Hospice team for the care shown to Marge during this last journey.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, November 11th, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 2-4:00 p.m. on Sunday. Memorials may be made to the local chapter of the Special Olympics or the Marshalltown Animal Rescue League. For condolences, please visit www.mitchellfh.com. Ph. 641-844-1234.

Born Margarete Bach on June 2nd, 1927, at Baxter, Iowa, she was the daughter of Carl and Elsie (Frahm) Bach. She graduated from the Baxter High School.

On June 17th, 1949, she was united in marriage to Elgin “Bud” Lafrenz in Baxter. They farmed at Laurel and moved to Marshalltown upon retirement in 1982. They shared 64 ˝ wonderful years of marriage at the time of her passing.

Marge was employed at Maytag in Newton and later Fisher Controls in Marshalltown until beginning their family. She was a hard-working farm wife and wonderful mother who treasured her family and enjoyed gardening, dogs, and family get-togethers during the holidays. She was a member of the Center Street Baptist Church and formerly the Laurel United Methodist Church, the Laurel Garden Club, Marshalltown Garden Club, O.U.R. Club, and area card clubs.

Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband Elgin “Bud”, her children-Kenneth (Shirley) Lafrenz of Marshalltown, Karla Lafrenz of Marshalltown and Kris (Matt) Freese of Marshalltown, her loving grandchildren- Kendra Lafrenz (Troy Tinius), Cody Freese and Michael Freese, her sister Beverly (the late Quinton) Biggins of Flagstaff, AZ, two nieces Suzanne and Nancy and many friends.

In death, she rejoined her parents. ~ The Des Moines Register Legacy, Des Moines, Iowa.
