Helen P. Hart died November 4, 2013 at Hospice Kavanagh House in Des Moines. Memorial services will be held 10:30 a.m., Saturday, November 30, 2013 at St. Augustin Catholic Church Chapel. A memorial gathering will be held 1 hour prior to the service at the church. Private interment will be held at Glendale Cemetery.

Helen was born February 20 in Fonda, Iowa, the daughter of William O. and Bessie McGowan Prendergast. When asked about her age, she always responded "I'm 20 because I was born on the 20th." Helen grew up in Marshalltown and Newton, Iowa. She attended Iowa State University, married John J. Hart on September 6, 1947 and moved to Des Moines. Helen was a world traveler. She was President of Hart Property Professionals for many years. She was active in numerous professional, civic and social organizations. She was a Contract Bridge Life Master. Helen returned to college and graduated from Drake University at 58.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John; parents; daughter, Katy; brother, James Alexander Prendergast in infancy, and sister, Kathryn P. Clark. Helen is survived by her daughter, Marcia Hart of Cedar Hill, TX; sons, J. Alex Hart of Des Moines and Dr. Andrew Hart (Janet) of Asheville, NC; grandchildren, Rebecca, Nathan and Abigail Hart; brothers, Paul Prendergast (Sandra) and David Prendergast (Lillian) of Newton; sisters-in-law, Joan Hart of Polk City and Margaret Ann Hart of Boone.Memorials may be made to HCI Care Services of Central Iowa. - See more at: http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/desmoinesregister/obituary. ~ The Des Moines Register Legacy, Des Moines, Iowa.
