Timothy J. Wilcox, 66, of Spencer, formerly of Newton, died Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2013.
Celebration of life services will be at 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, at the Newton Community Theatre, 1701 S. Eighth Ave. E. in Newton. A reception will follow. The family request no flowers and that memorials in honor of Tim be made to the Newton Community Theatre.
He is survived by his wife of over 35 years, Suzanne Von Seggern of Spencer; his daughter, Barbara Von Seggern Wilcox of Glen Burnie, Md.; a brother and sister-in-law, Chuck and Amy Wilcox of Anamosa; two nephews, Tim and Tom Wilcox; a niece, Jennifer Heinzering; and a host of friends.

Timothy James Wilcox was born on April 11, 1947 to Charles and Patricia (Skelton) Wilcox in Fort Madison, Iowa. The oldest of three children he grew up and graduated high school in Marion, Iowa. Following school Tim volunteered to serve in the United States Airforce during the Vietnam Conflict. During his time in the service he was based in Germany where he loaded bombs and amunitions onto aircraft. He was also certified to load atomic weapons. Following his honorable discharge in 1971 Tim returned to Iowa where he attended community college in Cedar Rapids followed by two years of college at Mount Mercy where he earned a degree in teaching and art.
Tim's first job was as a teacher for the Mingo School System in Jasper County, Iowa. While here he became involved with the Newton Community Theatre where he met the love of his life, Suzanne Von Seggern. They were married on August 13, 1978 in Newton, and were blessed with a daughter, Barbara.
Following Tim's brief teaching career, he worked as a Civilian Bomb Technician with the Air Force National Guard in Des Moines, Iowa. In 1984 after the birth of their daughter; Tim became a stay-at-home dad. He continued to work part-time, various hardware jobs.
Tim had a passion and love for theatre, and he acted and in several peformances in the Newton Community Theatre. He enjoyed impersonating Elvis and dressing up in various costumes. For expample when Tim and Suzanne went west on vacation he dressed as a "cowboy" if they went to Gettysburg he would dress in period. Tim enjoyed photography and as a youth, hunting with his brother. In addition, Tim and Suzanne loved to travel and shared that enthusiasm with their daughter.
Tim and Suzanne moved to Spencer, Iowa in 2008 where he continued to be involved in community theatre, riding his motorcycle, travel and enjoying life. Tim passed away with his family at his side on Tuesday, October 22, 2013, at home in Spencer. He lived 66 years, 6 months, and 11 days. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister Bonnie Yoeman; and a nephew, Jimmy Sharpe.
Those that will continue to cherish his memory include his wife of over 35 years, Suzanne Von Seggern of Spencer Iowa; his daughter Barbara Vonseggern Wilcox of Glen Burnie, Maryland; a brother and sister-in-law, Chuck and Amy Wilcox of Anamosa, Iowa; two nephews, Tim and Tom Wilcox; a niece, Jennifer Heinzering; and a host of friends. ~ The oleary funeral Home, www.olearyfunerals.com.
