Alice Brodersen, 97, of Newton died Monday, Oct. 28, 2013, at Nelson Manor Health Care.

A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church in Newton. Friends of Alice Brodersen may greet the family at the First United Methodist Church from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday.

Biography

Alice Louise Brodersen, the daughter of H. Frank and Mabel Warner Young, was born October 26, 1916, in Newton, Iowa. She graduated from the Newton High School and attended Normal College.

On March 3, 1940, Alice was united in marriage with James Oakley Brodersen in Prairie City, Iowa. Alice was a hard working farmer's wife. She devoted her life to her husband and family. She was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church in Reasnor and Newton. Alice enjoyed cooking, sewing, playing the church organ and caring for her family.

Alice died on Monday, October 28, 2013, at Nelson Manor in Newton. She was 97 years old. Alice was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Oakley Brodersen on November 20, 1998; a daughter, Katherine Brodersen and a grandson, Chris Parsons.

Those left to honor Alice's memory include her son, Regan (Betty) Brodersen of Newton; her daughter, Phyllis (Leo) Parsons of Lincoln, AL; her grandchildren, Dana Brodersen, Angie (Craig) Keith, Tara (Curt) Heck, Carol (Roy) Hansen; her great grandchildren, Nathan Keith, Libbie Keith, Bentley Heck, Bristol Keith, Chelsey Rilatos; her brother, George Young of Newton and her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Curt and Wanda Lamb of Reasnor, Iowa.

Services will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 2, 2013, at the First United Methodist Church in Newton. The family will greet friends from 10:00 a.m. till 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the church. Memorials may be designated to the First United Methodist Church and may be left at the church or at the Pence ~ Reese Funeral Home.
