Rolling Dean Barr passed away after a long and courageous battle with leukemia on October 5th, 2013. He was born at home on a lucky Friday the 13th, April, 1933 in Marion county, Iowa. He was the son of Helen Steinemen and Dick Barr.

He graduated from Monroe public schools in 1951. An athlete, he plated football, basketball and baseball. His passion was baseball and he boasted the only "no-hitter" recorded in Monroe High School history at that time.

After graduation he served in the U.S. Navy for four years, two of those years he was stationed on Midway Island. He said the only bright spot of that tour of duty was the R&R in Hawaii.

After the Navy, he worked for a short time at Newton Wholesale and in March of 1956 was hired by United Airlines in Des Moines, Iowa. He spent the next 38 years employed by "the friendly skies" and worked in Des Moines, Omaha, San Francisco, and Phoenix. Dean served as a customer service agent, senior agent, in-flight supervisor and a station trainer for United. He was recognized by United for his excellent service and near perfect attendance, he missed only 2 days of work in 38 years.

Dean was very active in the Sun City Elks Lodge. He served as Sate Vice President, Past Exalted Ruler, Chairman of the District and State Soccer Shoot, District and State Golf Chairman, Vice Chairman of Drug Awareness, Lodge Treasurers, Lodge Trustee, Ritual Coach, Ritual Judge, State Sergeant-At-Arms, Esquire to the District Deputy Grand Exalted Ruler, and a member of the State Meetings Committee. If he wasn't at the lodge, you could find Dean on a golf course with his many fiends. Highlight of his love of golf was being an announcer for many years at the LPGA golf tournament.

Dean is survived by his wife of 45 years, Donna; a sister, Patti Rutledge; his daughters: Nancy Long (David) Judy Rivera (Tony), Sally DeGoey (Dan), Linda Robinson (Rob); and sons: Gary Lovett (Debbie, and Greg Lovett (Jo); 11 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and his favorite four legged companion, Abby.
