Mildred Iserman (1925 - 2013)

Mildred Maxine Iserman, 88, of Waverly, died peacefully at her home on Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2013.

Mildred was born on March 3, 1925, in Clarke County, the daughter of William Vernon and Margaret Elizabeth (Siefkas) Fuller. Mildred grew up on a farm southeast of Murray, in Doyle Township. She attended rural school in Doyle Township and graduated from Murray Independent High School in 1943. She attended Iowa State Teachers College (Now UNI) and received her B.A.

Degree in 1951. On June 10, 1952, Mildred was united in marriage to John A. Iserman at the Little Brown Church in Nashua.

Mildred taught in the rural schools in Clarke County for six years, taught first grade in Newton Independent Schools, served as the children's librarian at the Waverly Public Library for six years, and substitute taught in the Waverly Schools. She substituted the final six weeks at the last rural school in Bremer County in 1966. She taught summer sessions at the first Head Start Program in Waverly. She taught Special Education for Tri-County (Bremer-Butler-Franklin) for 10 years and special education for AEA 7 in Tripoli for nine years. She retired in 1985. John died on April 1, 1993.

Mildred was a charter member of the Grace Baptist Church in Waverly. While attending Grace, she served in numerous roles including teaching 1st and 2nd grade Sunday School for more than 40 years. She was a member of the Winnebago National, State, and Local Clubs with which she did many caravans and rally trips. She also enjoyed the many bus trips she went on and traveled extensively with friends and family throughout her retirement years.

She is survived by her son, Michael J. Iserman, of Colorado; a daughter, Katrina M. Iserman and her husband Dennis Czech, of Boston; one granddaughter, Olivia Czech; three sisters, Irene Miller of Banning, Calif, June Lohr of Osceola, and Patricia Rinner of Medina, Ohio; two brothers, Robert Fuller of Osceola, and Gerald Fuller of Raleigh, N.C. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, John and a brother, Junior Fuller.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Sept. 28, 2013, at 11 a.m. at the Grace Baptist Church in Waverly with the Rev. James Lee officiating.

Burial will be held in Harlington Cemetery, Waverly. Visitation will be held on Friday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly. Memorials may be directed to Grace Baptist Church and online condolences may be left at www.kaisercorson.com.
