Edward A. McNew Dies Today; Rites Slated Wednesday
Edward A. McNew, 81, formerly of 601 S. 13th Ave. E., a resident of Newton since 1919, died this morning at the Skiff Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 Wednesday at the Wallace Funeral Home.
The Rev. Robert Hinshaw, pastor of the Ashton Chapel Church, assisted by the Rev. A. B. Sudbrock, pastor of the Newton Baptist Temple, will conduct services. Burial will be in the Newton Union Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Wallace Funeral home after 11 a.m. Tuesday.
Survivors are two sons, James E. of Commerce City, Colo., and Charles M. of Newton; two daughters, Mrs. Henry J. (Marjorie) Eilander of Newton and Mrs. Robert (Lois) Hinshaw of Kellogg; 19 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; a brother, Abe McNew of Missouri; and two sisters, Bessie Frisbee of Idaho and Mrs. Leonard (Dolly) Fisher of California.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Alice Nov. 4, 1973; a son, Kenneth Lee McNew; seven brothers and sisters; and two grandchildren.
Mr. McNew had been employed at the Vernon Co., retiring in 1961.
The son of George and Martha Bersheba McClure McNew, he was born Jan. 24, 1897 in Simmons, Mo.
He was married to Alice Belle Drake Dec. 1, 1920 at Newton.
