Zelpha Koppin, Former Resident, Dies in Florida
Zelpha Grace Altemeier Koppin, 76, of St. Petersburg, Fla., a former resident of the Newton area and a former operator of beauty shops in Kellogg and Newton, died Saturday afternoon at St. Anthony’s Hospital in St. Petersburg, Fla.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Johnson-Reese Chapel in Newton.
The Rev. H. Eugene Cedarholm, pastor of the First Lutheran Church in Newton, will conduct services. Burial will be in the St. John’s Cemetery, north of Newton.
Survivors are a step-daughter, Mrs. Fredrick (Naomi) Eggan of West Virginia; three sisters, Mrs. Minnie Altemeier and Mrs. Bertha Klopping, both of Newton, and Mrs. Ella Campbell of Wichita, Kan.; three brothers, William Altemeier of Madrid, Adolph H. Altemeier of Grinnell and Ross Altemeier of Denver, Colo.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Mrs. Koppin was active in the Senior Citizens of St. Petersburg, Fla.
Mrs. Koppin also had taught school in the Barrett community in Jasper County and operated beauty shops in Las Vegas, Nev., and St. Petersburg, Fla. She retired in 1969.
The daughter of Adolph G. and Louise Japcke Altemeier, she was born July 6, 1901 in Dexter, attended Jasper County schools and was a graduate of Newton Community High School, Newton Normal School and Des Moines Beauty School.
