David Edmundson was born in 1811, in Harrison county, Kentucky, being 84 years of age at his death. He moved to Indiana in 1827. In 1836 he came to Burlington, Iowa. In March 1846 he came to Jasper county. The county was organized in that year. He was the first sheriff of the county. He helped to locate Newton and owned 160 acres of land which was made a part of the city, known as Edmundson's addition. His loving wife and family of 8 children survive him, except one daughter, Ella, who died eight years ago in our city. Deceased was county judge in early days. He was for fifteen years justice of the peace, filling the office with great acceptation until he reached his 80th year, when he resigned. He came of a long-lived family, a brother living to the age of 92 and his mother to 94. Without any doubt Judge Edmundson was a grand old man. His simple, blameless life, earned the homage of the entire populace. No official could be more exact in the details of his work. As a citizen, husband, father, friend, his memory will long live to bless with its benign influence.
