Bill Sloan, 87, of Newton died on Tuesday, July 23, 2013, at Park Centre Care Center in Newton. A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the First Assembly of God Church in Newton. The family will greet friends at the Wallace Family Funeral Home or the church the morning of the service.

Bill, the son of Ray Floyd and Ruth Elizabeth (Hale) Sloan, was born June 2, 1926, in Des Moines. He moved to Newton at a young age. Bill served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII. Bill was united in marriage with Luella Fay on March 6, 1949, at the First Assembly of God Church in Newton. He worked and retired from the factory at the Maytag Company. Bill was a member of the First Assembly of God Church.

Those left to honor Bill’s memory are his wife, Luella Sloan of Newton; children, Dennis (Mary) Sloan of Newton, Jane (Earl) Canfield of Dunkerton and LaDon (Tom) Broich of Ankeny; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and his brother Ron (Karen) Sloan of Missouri. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter Cheryl Hashman; and a sister who died in infancy. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News.
