Those left to honor Dorothy's memory are her husband of almost 60 years, Alan of Newton; four children, Kathy (Mike) Schroeder of Council Bluffs, Kim Johnston of Hannibal, Missouri, Kelly (Kevin) Terlouw of Lynnville, and Kirk Anspach of Newton; eleven grandchildren, Alissa Schroeder (Harvey Taylor), Collin Schroeder, Jacob Johnston, Zachary Johnston, and Caleb Johnston, Riley Terlouw, Christopher Anspach, Ryan Anspach, Dakota Andersen, Destiny Anspach, and Elijah Anspach; four great-grandchildren, Savanah, Katelyn, Maxson, and Breyton; and her siblings, Lloyd (Marjorie) Wessel of Newton, Faye White of Newton, and Doris Wessel of Marshall, Missouri. She was preceded in death by her parents, and a sister, Virginia Kling.

Dorothy was a graduate of Newton High School with the Class of 1948. She attended Iowa State Teachers College (UNI) earning an emergency teaching certificate. She taught rural school for three years. She was later employed by the Newton Daily News, The Maytag Company, the Maytag Dairy, and Jasper County PHNS.

Dorothy was a member of the First United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Lady Elks, and Gulielma Zollinger Chapter of Questers. After retirement Dorothy and Al spent 25 winters in Arizona where they enjoyed square dancing, golf, and spending time with their many friends. She also loved to read and play bridge and she belonged to several bridge clubs. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were a special joy to her.
