Karen A. Pryke, 66, of Newton, formerly of New Jersey, died peacefully at her home on Monday, June 3, 2013, surrounded by her family. A private graveside service will be held at Newton Union Cemetery. Memorials to Skiff Hospice may be left at the Wallace Family Funeral Home.
Those left to celebrate Karen’s life are her mother, Doris Pryke of Newton; brother, James (Jennifer) Pryke of Newton; her nieces and nephews, Megan Pryke of Newton, Rob (Brandi) Pryke of Maryland and Katy (Steve) Stonehocker of Newton; and great nieces and nephews, Allison, Rylie, Mason, Emma, Alex and Isobel. Karen A. Pryke, 66, of Newton, formerly of New Jersey, died peacefully at her home on Monday, June 3, 2013, surrounded by her family. A private graveside service will be held at Newton Union Cemetery. Memorials to Skiff Hospice may be left at the Wallace Family Funeral Home. Karen, the daughter of Robert and Doris (Sniffen) Pryke, was born on January 19, 1947 in Teaneck, New Jersey. She grew up in River Edge, New Jersey and graduated from River Dell High School in Oradell, New Jersey. After high school, Karen graduated from Central College in Pella, Iowa with a degree in English and later from Princeton Seminary was her Master’s in Religious Education. Karen returned to the East Coast and worked as the Director of Religious Education for churches in Grotton, Connecticut and Wayne, New Jersey. She later was an Executive Secretary for EXXON, AICPA, and Sony. After retiring from Sony, she moved to Newton, Iowa in 2007. Karen enjoyed shopping, needlework, Sudoku puzzles, and staying in contact with her friends through email. Karen dearly loved her family, friends, church, and had an incredibly strong faith. Those left to celebrate Karen’s life are her mother, Doris Pryke of Newton; brother, James (Jennifer) Pryke of Newton; her nieces and nephews, Megan Pryke of Newton, Rob (Brandi) Pryke of Maryland, and Katy (Steve) Stonehocker of Newton; and great nieces and nephews, Allison, Rylie, Mason, Emma, Alex, and Isobel.
