A Kellogg man died Sunday after a 1-1/2 mile trek through icy winds when his truck stalled.
Authorities said John Max Swihart, 51, of rural Kellogg collapsed after reaching the home of his parents, Walter and Lois Adams. His lungs reportedly had frozen from the combination of strong winds and sub-zero temperatures.
Funeral services were conducted at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Wallace Funeral Home in Newton, with Elder Arthur Nichols of Knoxville officiating. Burial was at the McKeever Cemetery north of Colfax.
He is survived by two daughters, Terri Swihart and Tammie Gulling, both of Colfax; two grandsons; his parents; a brother, Raymond Swihart of Des Moines; and two sisters, Betty Reynolds of rural Kellogg and Carolyn Milloh of Lake Houghton, Mich.
