Larzen “Larz” Charles Hanson was born Dec. 29, 2010, in Fairmont, Minn., the son of Lance and Tracy (Birkenholtz) Hanson.

On Saturday, May 25, 2013, Larzen passed away at the age of two years, four months and 27 days.

Larz loved the outdoors. He couldn’t wait to get outside, play in the yard, follow in Dad’s footsteps, or find an adventure somewhere in the great outdoors. Though his life may seem too short, those around him were touched by him and know the quality of his existence far exceeds the quantity of time he lived. His infectious smile melted the hearts around him, and he will be forever loved and missed.

Left to cherish his memory are his parents, Lance Michael and Tracy Marie (Birkenholtz) Hanson of Emmetsburg; two sisters, Trinity-Ann and Heather; maternal grandparents, Larry and Jone (Schroyer) Birkenholtz of Newton; paternal grandparents, Kevin and Susan (Rasmussen) Hanson of Fenton; maternal great-grandfather, Jerry Schroyer of Baxter; paternal great-grandparents, Gordon and Janette (Durheim) Rasmussen of Madelia, Minn.; paternal great-grandmother, Charlene (Movick) Hanson of Hampton; aunts and uncles, Tony Birkenholtz and wife Abbi of Baxter, Troy Birkenholtz and wife Kelly of Newton, Todd Birkenholtz and fiancé Destiny Blum of Baxter, Nathan Hanson and wife Sarah of Armstrong, Kiyra Knowles, Chelsie Rolling and husband Brandon and Haylie Hanson, all of Fenton; and 11 first cousins.

Larzen was preceded in death by his maternal great-grandparents, Alice (Stalzer) Schroyer and Everett and Nadine (Damman) Birkenholtz; paternal great-grandfather, Merrildean Hanson; and his great-aunt, Arlis Frechette

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Family Catholic Church in Emmetsburg. Burial is in St. Michael’s Catholic Cemetery, Whittemore. Memorials may be made to Larzan Hanson Memorial Fund. Online condolences: www.joycefuneralhomes.com . ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News Website.
