Colfax, Oct. 26 – Saturday evening five boys from fifteen to nineteen years of age appropriated a handcar belonging to an extra section gang on the Rock Island and pulled it up toward Seevers. When at Andersonville on the steep grade the boys claim that a cat or rabbit jumped on the track in front of the car causing it to leave the track. Four of the boys, Glenn Smith, Jno. Gough, Jno. Bigney and Ed Carney picked themselves up and found that the car had landed on the track about twenty seven feet ahead of where it left. Frank Grablin, the fifth lad, was found under the car with his neck broken. He was taken back to Colfax and lived but a few hours. Mona Robinson, the coroner, came down yesterday morning and the case has been in the hands of the coroner’s jury ever since.
