James Balmer

The Newton News, Saturday, November 28, 1903

Page 1, Column 3

As announced yesterday James Balmer died very suddenly at his home in this city, the cause of death being by the physicians ascribed to heart disease.

Members of the family say that Wednesday Mr. Balmer was leading a calf, which proved unruly and jerked him about quite roughly. He afterward complained of pain in his breast. It is thought by some that this may have had to do with his sudden end. He rose as usual yesterday morning, did some little work around, ate breakfast as usual and toward ten o’clock complained of feeling badly and lay down and in a very short time he passed away.

Mr. Balmer leaves a wife and five children, all grown. He was 63 years of age the 23rd of last July. The funeral will be held in the Christian Church at two o’clock tomorrow afternoon, Rev. E. F. Leake having charge of the services.
