Mrs. Archie Armstrong of Chester Center, near Grinnell, died last Saturday afternoon, Rev. R. F. Lavender of this city conducting the services. Miss Ida Lavender, who was a warm friend of deceased, was down for the funeral and returned this morning. She tells of the double sorrow that came upon the home while she was there.

Mr. Archie Armstrong’s brother, Thomas Armstrong, of Preemption, Ill., had come over to attend the funeral. He was a great, big, strong, jolly fellow and last evening was trying his best to be cheerful and lighten the sorrow of the home where he was. The family and friends were sitting about talking when about nine o’clock Mr. Thomas Armstrong was seized with a severe pain around the heart. He suffered terribly until midnight when he too passed away.

The blow was so sudden and utterly unexpected that it was a great shock to all. ~ The Newton News, Tuesday, October 13, 1903, Page 1, Column 3
