ANOTHER VETERAN AND PIONEER ANSWERS CALL

The funeral of Silas H. Beals who died Tuesday
will be at the Ira M. E. Church tomorrow at 11 o'
clock.

Mr. Beals was born in Marysville, Tenn., 12,
1840. He is served in the civil war for three years as a member of Co I 10th Iowa Inf.

In 1865 he was married to Amy Heifner who passed
away several years ago. Six children were born to
them. One son Bert Beals, in a fit of mental
depression, took his own life a few weeks ago and
is thought that the shock of his death may have
hastened the father's death. He was at or near the son's home at the time of the great sorrow and then came back to Newton.

He died early Tuesday morning after a stroke of
paralysis on Monday at the home of his daughter
and her husband Mrs. J. O. Patterson just beyond
the overhead bridge.

Three children remain. Mrs. J. O. Patterson of this city and Wm. H. Baker and Elmer Beals of Ira. Si Beals was a staunch friend and loved his family. He was well known by the older people in Newton and Ira and was held in high esteem by all who knew him.
