The funeral of Mrs. J. L. Scharf took place from the late residence last Thursday afternoon at 2 o’clock, Rev. J. A. Ross, pastor of the Monroe M. E. Church, conducting the service. A special choir rendered the song service. Mrs. Scharf was always a home woman; her husband and children were her greatest earthly treasures. Although surrounded with a palatial home and every earthly comfort, yet when told she could not recover said, “it is all right.” Though suffering greatly, she bore her afflictions patiently. The cause of death was cancerous trouble of the liver. The operation for gallstones was successful but the other trouble could not be controlled and death came peacefully at 4 o’clock Tuesday afternoon, June 2nd, the family all being with her at the time. Mrs. Scharf was about 68 years of age. She leaves besides her husband, two sons and three daughters. They are Joshua and Sam Scharf, Mrs. Lyda Haines of Monroe, Mrs. Fred Rinehardt of Lincoln, Ill., Mrs. Lizzie Daut of Washington and two grandchildren to which she was very devoted. The interment was in the city cemetery.
