Lewis J. Reno died at two o’clock Thursday morning at the home of his sister-in-law, Mrs. Libbie Ohler, in Adamson Grove, southeast of Newton.

Deceased was born in Missouri, March 31, 1852. He came to this place when a small boy and was raised in Newton. When a young man he left here and went to railroading. He was married May 22, 1878, to Miss Mattie E. Adamson and they moved to Ottumwa. He was for years in the employ of the C. B. & Q. but had to give that up on account of his health.

He went into the hotel business and followed that very successfully for fourteen years in different western points. For the past three years he had been conducting the C. B. Transfer House in Council Bluffs.

Some three weeks ago while on his way to this city for a visit he was taken ill between this city and Colfax and was for ten days confined to his room at the Churchill, afterward being taken to the old home of his wife where his death occurred as above stated. Beside Mrs. Reno an adopted son, Lewis J., is left.

Mr. Reno was a self-made man and had achieved a large degree of success in the world. He was respected by all who knew him. He was a member of the Episcopal Church and was both a Mason and a Shriner, being past eminent commander of the Masonic Order.

The funeral will be held Sunday afternoon at the M. E. Church, this city.
