George R. Harrah died at 6 o’clock yesterday evening in the hospital in Davenport where he had been for the past month.

Mr. Harrah was born in this county August 26, 1856. He was the son of William N. Harrah, a brother of Albert and A. M. Harrah of this place. During the early part of his life he lived on the farm northeast of this city, was later in mercantile business in Newton with his brother Albert and still later bought and sold horses. He was married to Miss Margaret Beatty, daughter of John P. Beaty, July 7, 1880 and to them were born two daughters. Minnie died in infancy and Myrtle survives and was with her father at the end. Mrs. Harrah died May 21, 1884.

Mr. Harrah had for some time been troubled with liver complaint. The last two years he had suffered greatly and although every possible thing was done for him there seemed to be no relief. A few weeks ago it was decided that an operation might be beneficial and he went to a hospital in Davenport where the operation was performed. For a time he seemed to improve but about a week ago he took a turn for the worse and since that time it had been only a question of time until the end.

He was constantly faithfully waited upon by his loving daughter, who has time without number proved herself to be pure gold. She has ever been at his side and uncomplainingly has done every possible thing to comfort her father. Mrs. W. D. Harrah and Grace of Detroit were also with George at the time of his death.

The remains arrived last evening at 7:48 and were taken to the residence of A. M. Harrah, where the funeral occurred this morning at 9 o’clock, services being conducted by Rev. G. L. Smith of the Congregational Church. Interment was beside his wife in the cemetery at the college farm.
