Thelma Mae Wilson Butler Bennick, 73, of 2024 N. 4th Ave. E., a resident of Newton since 1950, died today, April 16, at the Skiff Medical Center following a stroke.
Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at the First Christian Church.
The Rev. Ray Barnett, pastor of the church, will conduct services. Burial will be in the Newton Memorial Park Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Wallace-Pence Funeral Home after noon Friday. Visitation with the family will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions to the First Christian Church will be accepted.
Survivors are her husband, Rufus; four step-sons, Carroll L. Bennink of Des Moines, Rodney James Bennink of Omaha, Neb., Norman L. Bennink of Ankeny and Robert Moses of Churdan; a step-daughter Dorothy Keitner of Nevada; two nephews and a niece, including Henry O. Butler of Reasnor and Gary F. Smith of Newton; 12 step-grandchildren and 10 step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Velma Fay Smith Mendenhall.
Mrs. Bennink had been a production worker in dryer assembly at the Maytag Co. for 23 years, retiring Aug. 1, 1974.
She was a member of the First Christian Church and the United Auto Workers, Local 997, Retirees Union.
The daughter of Obid Oscar and Vernie Lean Bachman Butler, she was born Feb. 1914 in Sidney, Mo.
She was married June 23, 1979 at the First Christian Church in Newton.
She had resided in Grinnell most of her life.
