Joseph R. Wheeler died at his rooms over the Hough & Kennedy Laundry in this city last evening at 6:25 o’clock. He had been ill for a long time and recently spent some time in a hospital in Des Moines.

Mr. Wheeler was born in Licking County, Ohio, Dec. 11, 1834. He came to Iowa in 1856, settling on a farm in Buena Vista Township. July 18, 1858, he was married to Sarah Turck and to them were born nine children, eight of whom are still living. These are Mrs. James Main of Des Moines, Orville M. of Newton, Mrs. Will Loomis, Ashland, Ore., Earnest, of Los Angeles, Mrs. Chas. Couch, Collins, Mrs. Eunice Muller, New York, Calif., and Delsie Milligan, Los Angeles.

Mrs. Wheeler died three years ago last March. For a number of years Mr. Wheeler had been a familiar figure about the streets of this city.

The funeral services will be held Friday at 11 o’clock in the church at Mt. Zion, southeast of this city.

Deceased was a soldier in the Civil War, a member of Co. B, 13 Iowa.
