James Patrick Maher, 68, of Mingo passed away on Friday, March 22, 2013, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.

A funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 26, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Colfax with burial following at Greencastle Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Monday at the church. There will be a vigil service at 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family and condolences may be sent to www.coburnfuneralhomes.com.

The son of John Patrick and Betty Ann (Gilreath) Maher, James was born on January 13, 1945, in Des Moines. He attended Mingo High School. During high school, James was active in 4-H, FFA and several sports, all activities that he carried into his adult life. He farmed and enjoyed raising cattle. He also worked maintenance at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines before his retirement three years ago.

Those left to honor his memory include his children, Danette (Brian) Pease of Colfax and Mike (Kelli) Maher of Prairie City; five grandchildren, Travis, Trent, Brook, Brady and Breanna; and siblings, Bill (Paula) Maher of Baxter, Jeanne (Al) Conover of Baxter, John (Jodi) Maher of Newton and Frank (Lynette) Maher of Mingo. Preceding him in death were his parents, a sister, Mary Kay Jones and two brothers, Charles Maher and Gerald Rinehart. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News Website.
