Susan French nee Peckenpaugh was born in Schuyler County, Ill., April 17, 1836, and died at her home in Prairie City, Iowa, March 23, 1903. Miss Peckenpaugh was united in marriage to John C. French March 23, 1859. To this union were born seven children, six daughters and one son. Two of these, Allen S. and Nancy, preceded their mother to the better land. The five living daughters are: Mrs. Emma Timmons of Des Moines, Mrs. Julia Roberts, Mrs. Bell Sterling, Mrs. Olive Milleson of Prairie City and Mrs. Susanna Brown of Mitchellville, who with the aged father and the two stepdaughters, Mrs. Saro Payton of Dale, Iowa, Mrs. Mary Bruner of Bondurant, Iowa, and three stepsons, Edwin C., of Ottumwa, Reuben H. and John T. of Prairie City, together with a host of friends are called upon to mourn the loss of a living wife, and affectionate mother and a good neighbor. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily Herald, Friday, March 20, 1903, Page 4, Column 3 – Prairie City

Susan Peckenpaugh was born in Schuyler County, Illinois, April 17, 1836 and died at her home in Prairie City, March 13, 1903.

She married John C. French, March 23, 1859.

Seven children; Mrs. Emma Timmons of Des Moines, Mrs. Julia Roberts, Mrs. Bell Sterling, Mrs. Olive Milleson of Prairie City and Mrs. Susanna Brown of Mitchellville, who with the aged father and two step-daughters, Mrs. Saro Payton of Dale, Iowa and Mrs. Mary Brunner of Bondurant, also three step-sons, Edwin C. of Ottumwa, Reuben H. and John T. of Prairie City mourn her loss. Two children, Allen S. and Nancy preceded her in death.
