The sad news has reached this city of the death of Miss Maude Efnor Saturday at her home near Reasnor, erysipelas being the cause of her death. Details have not been obtainable so far. It is understood that her father, Oscar Efnor, is quite sick with the same disease.

Miss Maude was a very bright young lady who graduated a couple of years ago from the high school of this city. Last year she went to Iowa Wesleyan University in Mt. Pleasant. During the past few months she had been teaching near Reasnor.

Her death is regretted by a large circle of young friends in this city. The funeral will be held tomorrow morning at Reasnor, ten o’clock being the hour, after which the remains will be brought to the Newton Cemetery for interment. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily Herald, Monday, March 16, 1903, Page 1, Column 4
=============================================
Death of Miss Maude Efnor

The many friends of this lovely girl were greatly shocked when the sad news reached Newton last Sunday by telephone that she had died at 9:30 that morning at her home near Reasnor. They had known for a couple of weeks that she was seriously ill but had not realized that her young and useful life was drawing so near to its close. About three weeks ago she was attacked by la grippe and soon afterward by erysipelas, which resulted in her death. Her father, Mr. Oscar Efnor, has also been prostrated by the same disease, and is still a very sick man.

Miss Lillie Maude Efnor was the elder daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Efnor. She was born near Reasnor, February 28, 1882, and died March 15, 1903, her age being twenty-one years and fifteen days. She graduated from the Newton High School with the class of 1900 and last year was a student of the Iowa Wesleyan University at Mt. Pleasant. During the past winter she taught near Monroe. She had been a member of the M. e. church from her childhood, and has for years taken a deep interest in the work of the Church and Epworth League. Her beautiful Christian character, and the rare womanly graces with which she was peculiarly endowed, made her a favorite in both church and social circles, and there is universal sorrow that a life so beautiful and promising should be cut off at the very beginning of its usefulness just when she was looking forward with the brightest anticipations to long years of happiness before her. Her heart had been given to the young man who had shared in her school life and was a fellow student with her in the Wesleyan University, - Mr. Bert Loveall-and they were looking forward to the happy consummation of their bright dreams of love and happiness, when death ended all. He was with her when her eyes closed in the long sleep.

Besides her parents she leaves one sister and three brothers – Grace, Guy, Earl and Claude. The stricken family are almost crushed by the terrible blow that has fallen upon them.

Funeral services were held in the M. E. Church at Reasnor, on Tuesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Jones, the pastor and were attended by a large concourse of friends. After the services the remains were brought to the Newton cemetery for interment. ~ Newspaper unnamed but probably the Newton (IA) Daily Herald, March 1903
