The death of Mrs. B. W. Blackwood yesterday morning was quite a surprise to her friends in this city, many of whom had not learned of her sickness.

Mary C. Dilhorn was born in Henry County, Indiana, January 19, 1846. She came to Iowa in 1854 and was married to B. W. Blackwood March 15, 1866. Of the children born to them seven are still living, as follows: Eva, at home; Archie, Newton; Mrs. Edith Murphy, Murphy; Elmer in Missouri; Earl, in school at Ames; and Walter and Arthur, at home.

Mrs. Blackwood had a stroke of paralysis nearly two years ago and last Saturday suffered a second stroke, from which she did not fully regain consciousness. Her death occurred at 7:30 yesterday morning. She was a member of Mt. Zion M. E. Church. The funeral will be held at the residence at ten o’clock tomorrow, services being conducted by her pastor, Rev. D. R. Martin, assisted by Rev. G. M. Tuttle of this city. Interment will be at Mt. Zion. ~ The Newton Daily Herald, Thursday, April 2, 1903. Page 4, Column 1
