MRS. NETTIE ROSS DIES IN COLFAX

Mrs. Nettie Ross, resident of Colfax and vicinity for nearly 40 years died in Colfax Firday at 10:30 p.m. following a brief illness.

Mrs. Ross had visited in Newton over Christmas with her grandchildren, Jack, Betty, Roy and David Ross and had returned to her home Dec. 27, suffering with a slight cold.

Mrs. Ross was preceded in death by a daughter, Anna, and a son, Roy of Newton, the latter’s death occurring in 1917.

Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 2:30 p.m. from the Morgan Funeral home in Newton by the Rev. L. C. McDonald, pastor of the Colfax Methodist church. Interment will be in the Newton Union cemetery. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, January 5, 1935, page 1, column 5.

ROSS SERVICES CONDUCTED HERE
Rites for Long-time Colfax Resident Held Sunday Afternoon

Funeral services for Mrs. Nettie Ross, resident of Colfax and vicinity for 50 years, were conducted from the Morgan Funeral home in Newton Sunday at 2:30 p.m. The Rev. L. C. McDonald, pastor of the Colfax Methodist Episcopal church, was in charge.

Music was furnished by Fred Hough, accompanied by his daughter, Marjorie.

Interment was in the Newton Union cemetery, with the following serving as pallbearers: Robert Wilson, Dick Bond, Harry Baker, John Hahn, Louis Hughes and Ed Forsyth.

Mrs. Ross, a native of Pennsylvania, came to Jasper county, Iowa in 1876. She was united in marriage in that year to J. B. Ross, who preceded her in death 20 years ago. Mrs. Ross was also preceded in death by a daughter, Anna, who died at the age of three years, and Roy of Newton, whose death occurred in 1917 [actually 1918].

Mrs. Ross died Friday at 10:30 p.m. at Colfax, following a brief illness from a cold and complications. She had visited in Newton over Christmas, returning to Colfax, Dec. 27.

Surviving relatives include four grandchildren, Jack B., Roy, Betty and David Ross, all of Newton, and a brother, R. E. Pennington of Pierre, S. D. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, Tuesday, January 8, 1935, page 4, column 4.
