Lucinda Williams (Mullen)
Last week we chronicled the death of Uncle John Williams. It is with deep sorrow that we now within a week have the sad duty of writing the death of his beloved wife, Mrs. Lucinda Mullen Williams, aged 79 years, who passed to rest Friday, Jan. 15, 1903, after a few hours illness with pneumonia. She was apparently as well as usual until Wednesday morning. A doctor was summoned and every care that love and experience could give were given, but nothing availed. We have known both of these dear old people for many years and can say they were a happy couple that even death could not separate for long. The funeral was from the late home at eleven o’clock Sunday morning, conducted by Rev. Dr. Guthrie of Oskaloosa, who paid a beautiful tribute to the memory of the deceased. She leaves two sons, Henry and Mathew, to mourn the loss of one of the best of mothers. She was laid to rest by the side of her husband in the city cemetery. ~ The Newton Daily Herald, Wednesday, January 21, 1903, Page 4, Column 2 – Monroe
