Harriet E. Marple was born March 22, 1844, near Philadelphia. She moved to Ohio when fifteen years old. At the age of 24 years she was married to John P. Jones. They came to Iowa in 1871 and settled on a farm north of town. Mr. Jones died there 25 years ago Jan. 1st. Mr. Jones came to Newton with her family twelve years ago and made her home here since. They had three children, Mrs. Henry Henning, Arthur A. and Elmer E., all of whom are living in this city.

Mrs. Jones died at her home Saturday evening. The funeral occurred this afternoon at 1:30 o’clock at the residence, services being conducted by Rev. G. L. Smith of the Congregational Church, after which the remains were interred in the cemetery at Wittemberg, beside those of the husband who had gone before.
