Lonnie Dale Rankin, 75, of Colfax died Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.

A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 7, at the Howard Street Christian Church, with burial following at the Colfax Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6, at Coburn Funeral Home in Colfax. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. There will also be a Masonic Service at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. Lonnie Dale Rankin, age 75 of Colfax, died Saturday, February 2, 2013, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. The son of John Raymond and Helen Maxine (Carnahan) Rankin, Lonnie was born on October 3, 1937, in Ira, Iowa. He graduated from Mingo High School in 1955. On June 24, 1962, he was united in marriage to Gloria Gale Fields at the Presbyterian Church in Colfax. Lonnie was a 50 year member of the Preston Masonic Lodge #218 in Prairie City, where he held every office several times. He also enjoyed trains. Lonnie was a friend to all and did not know a stranger.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife of 50 years, Gloria; a son Chris Rankin of Marshalltown; three grandchildren, a great grandchild; and three sisters, Sharon (Louie) Modlin of Newton, Dixie L. (Doug) Dawson of Newton and Virginia R. (Ronnie) Myers of Baxter. Preceding Lonnie in death were his parents. ~ The Coburn Funeral Home Website, Colfax, Iowa.
