Dorothy “Dot” Nelson Mickle, 61, of Monroe died Friday, Feb. 1, 2013, at Hospice of Pella – Comfort House.

A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5, at the Monroe United Methodist Church with burial following at Silent City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 4, at the church. Dorothy "Dot" Nelson Mickle, age 61 of Monroe, died Friday, February 1, 2013, at Hospice of Pella - Comfort House. The daughter of Earl Ernest and Darlene Mae (Maxwell) Nelson, Dot was born on September 19, 1951 in Newton. She graduated from Newton Senior High School. Dot was married to John Edward Mickle. She retired in 2012 from Vermeer Manufacturing in Pella. Dot enjoyed horseback riding and camping, and was an avid slow pitch softball player. She also loved all animals, and had many pets.

Those left to honor her memory include her children, John Edward (Yira) Mickle, Jr. of Ft. Leonardwood, Missouri, Adam (Lori) Mickle of Ames, Sherry (Cassie) Mickle of Newton and Shannon Mickle and her fiancé Ryan Dannen of Newton as well as 12 grandchildren. Also surviving are her siblings, Earl "Sonny" Nelson of Leesburg, Georgia, Anita "Toots" (Doug) Trotter of Newton, Carmen Vander Leest of Newton, Liz Tichnor of Arlington, Texas, Vonnie Romans of Knoxville and Arlene Crocker of Newton and her best friend, Ann Comer. Preceding her in death were her parents. ~ The Coburn Funeral Home, Colfax, Iowa.
