Jack R. Gibson, 70, Hamburg, Iowa, long-time golf pro at Fremont County Golf Course, Sidney, Iowa, was born Oct. 22, 1942, in Newton, Iowa, the son of George Rex and Mary Louise (Hall) Gibson. He attended school in Newton and graduated from Newton Senior High School, Class of 1961.

Survived by children Paul Gibson of Nevada, Iowa, Stacy Gibson (Julie) of Omaha, Neb., Melissa Gibson of Hamburg, Iowa; step-son Alex Hollingsworth of Bellevue, Neb.; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sister Marilyn Gaylor (Jim) of Polk City, Iowa; brother George Gibson (Sally) of Indianola, Iowa; seven nieces and nephews; other family and many friends.

A memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29, at Rash-Gude Funeral Home in Hamburg. Inurnment will be at a later date in Newton. Memorials to the G. Rex Gibson Memorial Scholarship Fund. Remembrances may be left at www.gudefuneralhomes.com. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News Website.

Jack R. Gibson, age 70 of Hamburg, IA passed away at his home on Wednesday; January 23, 2013.

He was born on October 22, 1942 at Newton, IA; the son of George Rex and Mary Louise (Hall) Gibson. He attended school in Newton and graduated from the Newton High School with the class of 1961. After his graduation, Jack attended Northwest Missouri State University at Maryville, MO where he participated in track at the university.

Jack served in the in U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He served as a Sonar Specialist in submarines. He was discharged in 1970. He worked as the Golf Pro at the Sidney Golf Course, Sidney, IA for some 34 years retiring in 2003. He was a member of the Hamburg American Legion and a life-time member of the PGA.

He is survived by his three children: Paul Gibson of Nevada, IA, Stacy Gibson and wife Julie of Omaha, NE and Melissa Gibson of Hamburg, IA; a step-son Alex Hollingsworth of Bellevue, NE; six grandchildren: Christopher, Zachary, Miranda, Jared, Katelyn and Jacob Gibson; two great-grandchildren: Vincent and Avery Gibson; a sister Marilyn Gaylor and husband Jim of Polk City, IA; brother George Gibson and wife Sally of Indianola, IA; seven nieces and nephews; other family and many friends.

Memorial Services will be held Tuesday (1/29) at 11:00 a.m. at the Rash-Gude Funeral Home in Hamburg, IA with Jack’s brother Rev. George Gibson officiating at the services. Inurnment will be in the Newton Cemetery, Newton, IA at a later date.

Memorials may be given to the G. Rex Gibson Memorial Scholarship Fund.
