After long years of suffering as a chronic invalid and weary weeks of sickness, T. H. Jacobs died at his home in this city this morning at nine o’clock.
Thomas H. Jacobs was born in Caernarven, Pennsylvania, July 21, 1830. He was married to Miss Maria J. Morrison in Davenport October 5, 1865. To this union there were five children born of whom three are now living, being Howard and Cliff and Mrs. Hattie Starrett, all of this county.
They came to Jasper County in 1870 and settled in Mariposa Township, where they lived until two years ago last March, when they came to this city. “Squire” Jacobs was well known in this county where he had been somewhat prominent in Republican politics for a number of years. He was twice elected county coroner and recently resigned on account of his health.
A brother, J. Howard Jacobs of Reding, Pa., visited him in June and the strange thing is that the brother died first, being buried some three weeks ago. Such are the uncertainties of life.
Mr. Jacobs had been bedfast for the past six weeks, during which time he has been tenderly cared for by his faithful wife and children, who are now greatly depressed, even though they knew the end was near.
The funeral will be held Sunday at 11 o’clock from the residence, services being in charge of Rector J. Evans Ryan.
