Beriah Battels went to Mingo this morning to attend the funeral of his brother-in-law, Arthur Hand.

The particulars regarding the death of Mr. Hand seem hard to get.

It is said, however, that Friday evening during the severe storm that swept over this country, Mr. Hand was out in the cornfield getting corn. He was standing in the wagon when a heavy clap of thunder startled his team and they jumped, throwing him out and inflicting injuries from which he died at an early hour Saturday.

Mr. Hand was between seventy and seventy-five years of age. He was the father of Hi Hand, who lives north of Newton and it was reported here Saturday evening that it was the latter that had been killed but this proved to be untrue.
