Robert S. Buckley, one of Monroe and Jasper County’s most highly respected citizens, died at his home in north Monroe, Aug. 23, 1902, after months of great suffering from rheumatism. Mr. Buckley was one of the leading Democrats of this county for years and was prominent in his party. He was an honored member of the order of Odd Fellows. The funeral took place Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock from the Baptist Church, Rev. Stiles of Reasnor conducting the funeral services, after which the burial service of the I. O. O. F. was conducted by Dr. W. H. Shaw, at the cemetery. Mr. Buckley was 74 years old. He leaves a wife and five children grown, to mourn his departure. The are Samuel, James and Robert Bentley, and Mrs. Freemont Summey and one daughter not here. We remember years ago the deceased proved a true friend to the writer, and we with many others can say a good man has gone to his reward.
