Geraldine J. "Jeri" (Hunt) Axtell (1934-2012)

INDEPENDENCE– Geraldine J. "Jeri" Axtell, 77, of Independence died Saturday morning at her home in Independence.

Jeri was born on Sept. 21, 1934, in Manchester the daughter of Cecil and Sue (Swanke) Hunt. She attended the Manchester Schools, and moved to Independence in 1962. She was employed with Corn Blossom, then in the Dietary Department of the Mental Health Institute, and as a courier with Purolator prior to her retirement. She was married to Donovan V. Axtell on June 29, 2007 in the Little Brown Church, Nashua.

Surviving is her husband, Don Axtell, Independence, six children; Theresa (Tom) Yakish, Kalona, Kevin (Heidi) Tudor, Independence, Kim (Mike) Shonka, Independence, Bobbie (Kim) Tudor, Newton, Cody (Dean) Wiese, Independence, Michele (Jeff) Payne, Waterloo, fifteen grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild, and two sisters; Cecelia Powell, Davenport, and Jackie Blosch, Manchester.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Cecil and Sue Hunt, a daughter; Debra Axtell, and a sister; Karen Hutchinson.

Memorial services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 18 at First Baptist Church in Independence, with Dr. David Larson officiating. Visitation was from 10 a.m. till services Tuesday at the church. Inurnment will be held at a later date.

The Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory of Independence, Iowa is in charge of arrangements.
