Olga Doris (Gilbert) Potter, 72, passed away peacefully Sept. 26, 2012, to be with her God and other family members who met her at the gate with open arms.

A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 1, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton. The family will greet friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 30, at the funeral home. Memorials to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association may be left at the Wallace Family Funeral Home.

Doris was born March 16, 1940, in Grinnell, Iowa. She later moved to Newton, Iowa. After graduating from Newton Senior High School she married John Ernest Potter on March 13, 1968, in Newton. John was the love of her life and she was a very devoted wife to him. Doris was an extremely dedicated and hard worker during her employment as a bookkeeper for Nollen’s Drug, Larchwood Florist and other retail stores. Doris loved helping people and was always thinking of others. Her current employer, Cline Tool, was one of her favorite places to work. She took pride in keeping it in tiptop shape. Doris enjoyed reading, cleaning her house, collecting dolls and Precious Moments and being with her family and friends. She will truly be missed and remembered by many people. She touched several lives with her warm and friendly ways. Doris was concerned about everyone and was truly a blessing to everyone she came in contact with during her life.

Doris is survived by her husband of 44 years, John Ernest Potter of Newton; her sister, Harriet (Lawrence) Bogaards of Oskaloosa; brother, Johnny Paul (Linda) Gilbert of Rocky Mount, N.C.; her many nieces and nephews, including Jamie Martin, Ashley Greenstreet and Arvin, Mark and Bruce Bogaards and their families; and her new dog, Ruby Red. Her parents, Harry Francis Gilbert and Jaunita (Evans) Gilbert, and her lovely sister, Ella Mae Terlouw, preceded her in death. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, September 28, 2012.
