Marvin Eaton Sr.

Marvin L. Eaton Sr., 67 of Colfax died Friday, Sept. 21, 2012, at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines.

A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 25, at the Howard Street Christian Church, with burial following at the Colfax Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. tonight, Sept. 24, at Coburn Funeral Home in Colfax. Memorials may be directed to the Marvin L. Eaton Sr. Memorial fund, and condolences may be left for the family at www.coburnfuneralhomes.com.

The son of Elvin Wayne and LaVera Lucille (Walker) Eaton, Marv was born on Oct. 12, 1944, in Newton, Iowa. He attended Newton Schools. On Oct. 31, 1964, he was united in marriage to Connie Sue Brant at the Howard Street Christian Church. Marv retired from the Maytag Company after 30 years of service. He attended the Foursquare Church in Newton. Marv is a member of the Colfax Volunteer Fire Department, UAW Local 997, Jasper County Pony Express, Central Iowa Square Dance Callers Association, Coached Little League in Newton and served on the Jasper County Fair Board. Marv also loved to play bingo.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Connie; three children, Carolyn Sue (Dean) Smith of Winterset, Marvin Lee (Janet) Eaton Jr. of Colfax and Tonia Rae (George) Montgomery of Newton; seven grandchildren, Jordan and Josh Smith, Jesse Hutchins and Shelby and Courtney Eaton and Sarah and Emily Montgomery. Also surviving is his sister, Sandra Sue (Tom) Tinnermeier of Newton and in-laws, Jean Roam of Colfax, Edward “Bud” and Mona Brant of Missouri, Betty Northrup and Harry and Shirley Brant of Las Vegas as well as several nieces, nephews and close friends.
