Richard D. Lukert

Richard D. Lukert, the son of Francis and Leota Miller Lukert, was born July 30, 1930, in Sabetha, Kan.

He graduated from Sabetha Senior High School in 1948. Richard served his country in the United States Navy from 1948 to 1950.

On May 4, 1958, Richard was united in marriage with Doris Jean Jontz in Omaha, Neb. Richard retired as a customer service agent with Braniff Airlines working from 1954 until 1985 in St. Joseph, Mo., Omaha, Neb., Denver, Colo., and Dallas, Texas. He is a member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church. Richard enjoyed fishing and sports.

Richard died on Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2012 at the Skiff Medical Center under the care of Skiff Hospice. He was 82 years old. Richard was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Della Elizabeth Van Long.

Those left to honor Richard’s memory include his wife, Doris of Newton his extended family and friends.

Funeral services for Richard Lukert, 82 of Newton, will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 24, at the Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton. The family will greet friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated in Richard’s name to the Seventh Day Adventist Church or the Jasper County Animal Rescue League and may be left at the Pence-Reese Funeral Home. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News.
