From the Ashland, Oregon, Tidings of April 9th we learn that Col. C. H. Silsby, an old time resident of this city is dead. His death occurred May 8 and he was in his 79th year. Col. Silsby left here in 1893, having lived here ever since the close of the Civil War, in which he distinguished himself by valiant service. He went out from here as a private in Co. I, 10th Iowa. He rose from the ranks until finally he was made colonel of the 10th. At the close of the war he returned here and continued to reside her until ’93.

Deceased was a native of Pennsylvania. He was married to Helen M. Smead in Iowa in 1855 and to their union there were born four children.

He was for six years postmaster in this city and also held other offices with honor to himself and the people he represented.

He had a splendid military record and his private life was such as to make for him many warm friends who will mourn his death. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church and previous to the time he left was a member of the Masonic Order.
