Iowa State Democrat, Thursday, March 7, 1901

Mrs. Z. T. Hixson died quite suddenly at her home in this city last Friday evening after a very brief illness.

The maiden name of deceased was Margaret E. Armstrong and she was the daughter of Mrs. William Armstrong of Newton. She was born in Independence Township September 21, 1856. She was married to Mr. Hixson September 20, 1876, and to this union there were two sons born, both of whom survive, Willie and Amzi, aged 23 and 21 years respectively. The circumstances of Mrs. Hixson’s death were peculiarly sad. She was just expecting to become a mother and without any warning convulsions began and in a moment she was gone. The babe, for whom the mother’s life was sacrificed was not brought forth alive and rested upon its mother’s shoulder in the casket, a beautiful picture but extremely sad.

Deceased had for years been a member of the M. P. Church of Hixson Grove and was known as a faithful Christian woman. Her sad death is mourned by many friends outside the immediate family. The funeral was held Sunday afternoon in the M. E. Church of this city, Rev. Willits conducting the services. The church was prettily decorated and good music was rendered. A large concourse of friends were in attendance.
