Short services were held at the home of the late W. H. Redman last Friday afternoon. The following morning the remains were taken to Montezuma for interment, the funeral occurring Sunday. A number of the Jasper County Bar as well as some of the I. O. O. F. accompanied the funeral party from this city to Grinnell Saturday morning.

The death of Capt. Redman occurred so near the hour of our going to press last week that we were unable to give particulars. Indeed there were but few to give. He had been in Grinnell on business during the day and returned on No. 1 at 8:50 p.m. The heavy snowfall made the walking from the depot very hard and when he reached home he was greatly fatigued. His daughters did what they could to relieve him and as he was sitting by the fire he remarked that he was getting warm and comfortable. The words were hardly passed his lips when his head sank forward and he was gone.

It is not necessary for this paper to add to the many words of praise that have been spoken of the character of the deceased. Where he was best known he was called “Honest Hank” Redman. He would have been nominated for secretary of state last year had not the machine been against him. He was not a man to be handled as the politicians desire.

To his children, besides a competency, which will be sufficient for their needs, he has left that priceless heritage, a good name. The sympathy of all goes out to them in the hour of trial. While they were comparative strangers here they did not lack for friends and they desire to make grateful acknowledgement to all for kindnesses shown them.
