Murder at Seevers

Our community was shocked last Sunday afternoon by a report from Seevers that a man had been shot and killed there.

The sheriff, coroner and others left immediately for the scene and the inquest commenced Sunday night.

The murdered man was Dan Kurnga and the man who did the killing was Millen Savage. The former was about 26 years old and had been in the camp about two months; the latter was nineteen years old and has been in Seevers over two y ears.

Savage was brought to Newton by Sheriff Russell and still remains in Jail.

It is a peculiar thing but at the inquest, there could be no motive found for the deed in any way, manner or form. The evidence had to be taken through an interpreter and it was not very satisfactory.

The man was shot through the breast and lived but a short time. Both are Austrians and both single. ~ The Newton (Iowa) Journal, Wednesday, January 5, 1910.
